Everything you need to know about our refrigerated trucking services.
Reefer trucking is refrigerated freight transportation using specially equipped trailers with built-in cooling units. These trailers maintain precise temperature ranges — from frozen (-20°C) to controlled ambient (+25°C) — throughout the entire journey. It's the backbone of the cold chain for perishable goods like fresh produce, dairy, wine, meat, and pharmaceuticals.
We specialize in the Okanagan Valley and Western Canada, with regular routes connecting Kelowna, Penticton, Osoyoos, Vernon, Kamloops, Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton. Our Kelowna hub serves as the central dispatch point for the entire Okanagan region, and we're currently expanding our Vancouver corridor routes.

We transport a wide range of temperature-sensitive products originating from or destined for the Okanagan region, including tree fruits (cherries, apples, peaches, pears), wine and craft beverages, dairy products, fresh and frozen meats, organic produce, floral arrangements, and specialty food products. We also handle inbound shipments of temperature-sensitive goods for local retailers and distributors.
Our fleet supports three temperature zones: Frozen (-20°C to -18°C) for ice cream, frozen meats, and frozen produce; Chilled (0°C to 4°C) for fresh fruits, dairy, seafood, and floral; and Controlled Ambient (15°C to 25°C) for wine, chocolate, and certain pharmaceuticals. Our multi-temperature trailers can maintain different zones within a single load.
Absolutely. Wine transport is one of our specialties, given the Okanagan's thriving wine industry. We maintain precise cellar temperatures (typically 12°C to 15°C) from winery door to distribution warehouse or retail location. We transport for dozens of Okanagan wineries and also handle craft beer, cider, and other temperature-sensitive beverages.
Yes, we offer both. Reefer LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) lets you ship smaller volumes cost-effectively by sharing trailer space with other temperature-compatible shipments — ideal for smaller producers and seasonal shippers. Reefer FTL (Full Truckload) provides a dedicated trailer for larger shipments requiring unbroken cold chain, with direct origin-to-destination service.
Harvest season (July through October) is our busiest and most critical period. We increase fleet capacity and route frequency to accommodate the surge in Okanagan fruit shipments — cherries, peaches, apricots, apples, and pears. We coordinate harvest-day pickups directly with orchards and packing houses and offer pre-cooling at origin to lock in freshness.
Our fleet includes 53-foot full-size reefer trailers for long-haul and high-volume shipments, as well as smaller straight trucks for local Okanagan deliveries and tight loading docks. All units feature multi-temperature capability, continuous IoT temperature sensors, and GPS tracking.
Refrigerated freight between Kelowna and Kamloops takes approximately 2 hours via Highway 97. We operate daily scheduled service on this lane, with same-day and next-day options available. This route connects Okanagan producers to the Trans-Canada Highway corridor and onward markets in Vancouver and Alberta.
The Kelowna-to-Penticton lane takes approximately 1 hour via Highway 97. We provide daily pickups and deliveries throughout the South Okanagan, including Penticton, Naramata, Summerland, and surrounding areas. During peak harvest season, we run multiple daily departures on this route.
Yes. We facilitate cross-border reefer shipments from the Okanagan to Washington State and beyond via the Osoyoos–Oroville border crossing. Our team handles all required documentation including PARS/PAPS pre-clearance, FDA Prior Notice for food shipments, and phytosanitary certificates for produce. Our FAST-approved drivers and C-TPAT certification help expedite border crossings.
Every trailer is equipped with continuous IoT temperature sensors that transmit readings in real time via cellular networks. Our dispatch team monitors conditions 24/7, and automated alerts trigger immediately if temperature deviates from the set range. You can access live tracking and temperature data through our online monitoring portal at any time.

All Valley Fresh Express drivers complete comprehensive food safety training covering HACCP principles, safe loading and unloading procedures, temperature verification protocols, and cross-contamination prevention. They also maintain current ELD (Electronic Logging Device) compliance and Hours of Service records. Refresher training is conducted annually.
Yes. Every shipment includes a complete digital temperature log showing continuous readings from pickup to delivery, a signed proof of delivery (POD) with timestamp, and origin/destination temperature verification records.
